I got a bargain camera on
Ebay recently, a Canon AV-1. I had been watching it on there for a week
or so, and it didn’t sell, so I put in a cheeky low offer. Bingo-bango,
it’s mine! Here are some from my first roll, taken around the new
neighbourhood and at home last weekend. I’m looking forward to more
attempts and of course improving my skills (or lack of)! Does anyone
reading this use film? If so, what is your favourite film to use?
I hope you all have nice weekends. We’re off to a wedding near Cheltenham tomorrow. See you next week :)
Ehhh what a bargain!! I have the same camera....it was my dad's!! I haven't been using it much lately, but i used to use it a lot with slide films. For b/w i use ILFORD, for slides and normal film i use FUJIFILM. Have a great weekend xx :)
ReplyDeletenice score. and great photos. i don't use film. i wish i could share in the conversation. i am a digital maniac.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics, how old is that camera? The colors are pretty and the sharpness too! I use film regularly, mostly the cheapest around, but for really deep colors I love to use the roles by Lomography.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys.
ReplyDeleteIris, it came out in 1979. I have the AE-1 too, so it’s interesting to compare them. Need to play with them more to see if I have a favourite as they work quite differently.
Film?!...Is that the same as a Canon one shot?! LOL...Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Kerry -- I particularly love the sharpness and soft lens blur in the foreground of the My Little Pony shot.
ReplyDeleteWould love to hear which Canon you prefer, as I've been thinking about buying an AE-1 to play around with too.
I adore shooting on film (I mostly use Lomography's LC-A+ now), and testing different types of film. Am hooked on Fuji's T64 lately (got a joblot on eBay recently), and if you can find Fuji's Velvia (either 50 or 100 ISO) it produces some amazing results. Otherwise, AGFA is pretty cheap and does a good job too :)
I love that clock and postcard display!
ReplyDeleteThe AV-1 is my favourite! Such a wonderful camera. I use either fuji sensia 400 or kodak ultra 400 (which is sometimes stocked in the pound shop). 7 day shop always seems the most reasonable place to buy them though.
Just blogged about going back to film. I have fallen in love with my Polaroid 600SE for months now and it has led me back to film. Looking for the right medium format camera for me and then experimenting all summer. Loved your post, and your shots, I am really excited to see more people going back to film. People are learning to use their cameras again.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved that poster from Studio Violet in the last picture! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your little red shoes! They always remind me of bike tyres from above, for some reason, which = awesome!
ReplyDeleteFilm-wise, if you want to get experimenty, maybe try some redscale film? I think the fine folk at Lomo do it now in a little pack. It gives your photos a reddish-orangey-yellow tint, which can look really nice if you fancy something different for a roll. It can look a little 70's horror filmy though when used at night with flash. Which can also be fun!
Have a lovely weekend!
I've been checking out film cameras lately too. We have an old manual in the closet. Might dust it off.. tho finding film is getting hard 'cept online. Anyone use a special scanner to scan them on the 'puter?
ReplyDeleteYour photos are lovely Kerry! Have a wonderful weekend (I also love snippets of your home in the Bertie shots!). :D
There really is nothing like film! I'm trying to finish the roll that's been sitting in my AE-1 this weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good one!
I use film! 35mm and still love the look of it more than a digital camera.

Thanks for the info Kerry. I have a few compact camera's from the seventies: the colors are strange because the light-measurement is too old. But I love your pictures and will be searching fleamarkets for a vintage Canon SLR so I can adjust it myself.
ReplyDeletehow exciting! i mostly use slide film but in addition love kodak portra 160 nc, 400 and 800 and also kodak ektar 100 - that gives beautiful results in good light. looking forward to seeing more :)
ReplyDeleteOooh! That's so exciting! Nothing like a new toy to keep up happy :)

Hi kerry
ReplyDeletepayment received postcards.
hi kerry
ReplyDeletesorry for my english
did you recieve the payment of the postcards?
I "returned" to film in 2005, and never looked back! I shoot mostly medium format and Polaroid, but my favourite films right now are Kodak Ektar 100, and Kodak Portra 160nc. My favourite film EVER was Agfa Optima 100, but alas: it is no longer made, and I am nursing my last few rolls....
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous shots! What a great purchase!
Hooray for more film cameras! I like shooting with Fuji Pro400H. Beautiful, neutral tones and nice contrast. What film did you use? I love the reds in your photos.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice on the camera! These shots look great <3
ReplyDeleteI think I need a similar card on my wall. Sometimes plan but sometimes wing it. :)
ReplyDeleteI have so many favorites films ... the last film I saw (and enjoyed) is "Inglorious Basterds" Tarantino ;-)
ReplyDeleteI use all kinds of film, but the cheaper the film, the better the results, in my opinion. The lomography-film is an exception, it's pretty expensive but I totally love the color and surprising effect of this film.
ReplyDeleteOh, Iris said the same, I see. Not so strange since we talk about it a lot. ;)
ReplyDeleteA wonderful and lovely camera! I fell in love with this jewel!
